Andorra Taste Popular puts the best of Andorra's gastronomy on stage from 16 to 18 September in Escaldes-Engordany

The public events include tasting sessions, free showcooking, children's cookery workshops and music. Over fifteen restaurants and their gastronomic fare will be represented in the Principality at this first round of Andorra Taste Popular.

In September Andorra will be the world capital of high-mountain cuisine at Andorra Taste, a dual event with a professional conference debating identity, sustainability and projection of mountainous territories through gastronomy; and a popular event with tasting spaces, and an interesting agenda of activities for all ages. After it has shared debate on gastronomy, authenticity, sustainability, territory and local produce with the leading lights of international and national gastronomy in the initial days of the event (14 to 16 September), on 16, 17 and 18 September Andorra Taste Popular will turn calle Veedors in Escaldes-Engordany into a gastronomic space for one and all to enjoy the very best of Andorra gastronomy and its local produce, alongside Andorra's best chefs. With open-air spaces to taste recipes at reasonable prices, and many free activities such as showcooking and a special schedule for children, against a backdrop of the best music.

Over fifteen restaurants will be represented at this first round of Andorra Taste Popular Each will be serving up different fare to compose a huge offer of flavours and recipes including cannelloni and mountain rice, "fricandó" beef/mushroom stew and marinated forest rabbit. The range also includes a sweet offering by leading pastry outlets in Andorra. The restaurants that have already confirmed they will be at Escaldes-Engordany are Borda Raubert (La Massana), Restaurant Mínim’s (Andorra La Vella), Can Manel (Andorra La Vella), Celler d’en Toni (Andorra La Vella); Restaurant de L’Isard (Andorra La Vella), Plató Restaurant (Andorra La Vella), Odetti Bistró (Escaldes-Engordany), Kao Soldeu (Canillo), Koy Hermitage (Soldeu), TOC - Anyós Park (La Massana), L’Era d’en Jaume (Llorts) and Kökosnøt (Andorra La Vella). And they will be joined by gourmet shop Ana Cerezo Pernilea! (Andorra La Vella) and pastry outlets Sauleda by Júlia Onix (Andorra La Vella) and Youcake by Estopiñán (Escaldes-Engordany).

Andorra Taste Popular will be a huge popular fiesta all weekend, with live music, open to the public from 12:00 h to 22:00 h on Friday and Saturday, and from 12:00 h to 20:00 h on Sunday 18 September.

Payment in tokens

For a taste of the gastronomic fare at Andorra Taste Popular, visitors will require tokens, the event's official currency, which can be purchased in situ. Each token is worth one euro and all the recipes will have the same price, four tokens.

The gastronomic fare at Andorra Taste Popular will be accompanied by a packed programme of showcooking and tasting of cakes, wine, cured meat, artisan Andorra beer or "ratassia", the local artisan liqueur of nuts and medicinal herbs hand-picked in the mountains of Andorra.

Cookery for children

Víctor Gonzalo and Sofía Janer, former Spainish Masterchef 6 talent show contestants, will head up the cookery workshops for children. They will be heading up workshops for the youngest visitors on Saturday and Sunday, with sweet and sour recipes. They were both part of the gastronomy team at Jordi Cruz's restaurant (ABaC***), and they are now engaged on their own project, La Dramerie, a pastry outlet in Barcelona. In 2019, Víctor Gonzalo was declared best restaurant dessert-maker at the Barcelona Gastronomy Forum's Best Dessert Restaurant.

Andorra Taste Popular will be an open-air extension of the professional Andorra Taste congress, the first International High-Mountain Cuisine Encounter, from 14 to 16 September. The event, organised by Vocento's Gastronomy Division and Andorra Turisme, will bring together one hundred professional experts from mountain environments all over the world to single out high-altitude ecosystems as the key components of nature and identity based on the concepts and values which now rule world gastronomy: authenticity, sustainability, territory and local produce.
